I'm hoping to do some recording in our attic, but in the summer months it gets moderately hot and humid up there.
I want to avoid damaging my recording gear.
At what temperature does a room become dangerous/unsuitable for gear?
Thanks in advance for helping me out.

Re: Is My Studio Too Hot?
Fri, May 29, 2009 - 12:20 AMTypically, you don't want the ambient temperature to be over 85° F, especially for the computer & hard drives. -

Re: Is My Studio Too Hot?
Thu, June 11, 2009 - 4:23 PMthanks Jory - is that just when the electronics are on?
for example, the room temp dips drastically in the evenings - is it a bad idea to keep my gear shut off in a hot room all day, and then power up when the temp has lowered?
the answer may determine if i can live where i am living, or if i must start apartment hunting again.
thanks!

Re: Is My Studio Too Hot?
Mon, June 15, 2009 - 9:52 AMThe gear should be fine in a warm room when it's not on, so long as it's not humid or the humidity is non-condensing. Each piece of electronic gear will tell you its maximum temperature on the label, typically. If it is very hot, the gear will last longer if you give it opportunities to cool down. -

Re: Is My Studio Too Hot?
Tue, June 23, 2009 - 1:29 PMGenerally, storing your gear in a place with a higher ambient temperature isn't bad. But running it in warmer temps can be. Remember that all electronics generate a sizable amount of heat energy. It's easy to run your equipment in an environment of 85 degrees and when you power up your gear, the temps can rise 20 - 30 degrees. Making it VERY hot not only for yourself, but the gear. My suggestion is to go to your local WalMart and purchase a small air conditioner. You can catch one on sale for about $100 and they're easy to install into any window. Run it before you fire up your gear. Then the room should be comfortable.
