Hey everyone!
my mom, being the supportive and loving lady that she is, tends to get me something that i want for christmas. for the last 6 years or so, she has been slowly helping me to build my meager music studio.
i am looking to get a sound card in the 200-300$ range. i have a mac mini, firewire port. I produce psychedelic trance and will use a microphone, but it isn't the biggest selling point for me. I am looking for quality engineering and durability most of all.
i would love to hear your thoughts!

Re: what sound card should i get? 200$-300$
Sat, October 6, 2007 - 12:17 AMBro, for the price, I have to say, IMHO, your best option is the Tapco Link Firewire...& in support of this I offer 2 articles of evidence:
1- it's $199
2- & this is really the big sell for me...it's made by MACKIE -

Sun, October 7, 2007 - 6:42 PMYes, Mackie purchased the TAPCO name....
So, it's really Mackie quality - but made a little cheeper
for the budget minded----
but still better that PreSonus (flame baite) -

Re: what sound card should i get? 200$-300$
Mon, October 8, 2007 - 9:10 PMactually, Bro...Mackie didn't purchase the Tapco name. Tapco was the original name that Bob Mackie started operating under in the 70's when he decided to start building live mixers for stadium concerts because noone was making them. so, in all reality, Mackie merely REINTRODUCED the Tapco name. look it up. -

Re: what sound card should i get? 200$-300$
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 2:10 AMThanks for reminding me....
I dont have room in my memory for ALL that trivia...
just enuf room for some of my personal experience with TapCo and Mackie.
Most of those Mackie mixers I've used and heard have not been as nice as
the BiAmp and Soundcraft and some others I've used over the years....
But those Mackie mixers did come in cheep for people to use.
I've had a BiAmp RackMac Plus that sounds way nicer to me that those equivalent
Mackie VLZs. - But then BiAmp is Pro stuff and those Mackies are consumer/ musician
quality.
I've used some pretty rauchy looking TapCo stuff 25 years ago that was old then -
and just worked..... Hi-Z mic ins and all... we used the Shure mic X-formers.
When we looked inside to fix - very easy to service...
But I didn't know TapCo was the ONLY company to make Stadium Consoles.....
I thought Harrison and all the other big guys made them.

Re: what sound card should i get? 200$-300$
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 1:51 PMTapco was the only company from like 76-78...then it caught on with others...again, it was born, like so many other things, out of need. & Mr. Mackie is & was an audiophile hobbyist geek. lot's of time & resources to tinker with. I think I remember him saying he used to by stuff from Radio Shack to open it up & improve on it.
