forgive my novice status, but when i'm using an external preamp (eg. a tube preamp to warm up the signal), should i be bypassing the preamp in my digi002R unit, or does it not make any difference? in other words, is it silly or perhaps self-defeating to run my signal through the tube preamp, and then through the digi rack's preamp? should i be routing the signal into a non-preamp'd channel on the digi rack?
thanks.
thanks.

Re: q'n re: outboard preamps
Sat, September 8, 2007 - 5:21 PMYou should use one preamp or the other, but not both. So if you use an external tube pre, you want to take that signal in a line level input on your digi rack.
The purpose of a mic preamp is to amplify the signal from mic level to line level. If you come into a mic preamp with signal that's already been amplified to line level, that second preamp will distort horribly. -

Re: q'n re: outboard preamps
Sat, September 8, 2007 - 8:21 PMinteresting....i have been running the signal through both preamps and haven't noticed any distortion, even with the digi pre up three quarters of the way. i understand the principle though, and i'll bypass the digi pre from now on.
thanks.

Sat, September 8, 2007 - 10:14 PMuse the 1/4" line inputs, not the xlr. -

Re: q'n re: outboard preamps
Sun, September 9, 2007 - 8:48 PMOn the 002R, I would recommend using inputs 5 to 8, there is less electronics involved than in the first 4 inputs, just make sure the little switch in the back is set to 4+db.
