One thing I am confused about is why use a DI, when plugging my acoustic gtr, bass or keys works fine into my Pro Tools console? I just control the input with my instrument knob or the PT gain? please forgive my ignorance on the subject.......
I have a RMS passive DI. I am wondering if it is working correctly? The Att has 3 choices 0 20 and 40 db. I don't notice a volume difference when switching them?
I plug my 1/4 inch acoustic gtr cord into the input (50k ohms) and I have a 1/4 coming out of the Para Out (50k ohms) into my Pro Tools console.
I also am wondering if you could tell me the best uses for the on/off Ground switch and when to Have it on. And when to use the XLR Balance IN/OUT (600 ohms)?
thank you in advance,
paul

Re: Direct Box Ins & Outs
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 8:39 PMGeneral DI Suggestions:
Attenuation = 0, only use -20 pad, or -40pad if your signal input is too hot...
You should likely go 1/4"guitar in and use the XLR out to the console (it may need phantom power)...
Only use the ground switch if your hearing any hum or ground noise...

Re: Direct Box Ins & Outs
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 6:21 AMnot sure what PT device you use, but the MBox at least has a 1/4" input that you can set to instrument level (Hi-Z), making a DI unnecessary. That said, an external DI could sound different or better, so you may want to compare.
